WorldSkills Russia 2014 Open Championship Will Be Held in Novosibirsk for the First Time

The Regional Open Championship of the Novosibirsk Region WorldSkills Russia 2014’ will be held at the Novosibirsk Expocentre International Exhibition Complex on April 1-4, 2014.

The Championship will include the following 10 professional skill contests:

  • electric installation work;
  • hairdressing;
  • cosmetology;
  • confectionary;
  • web design;
  • CNC milling;
  • CNC lathing; 
  • fashion technologies;
  • cooking;
  • welding.

Competence contests will be organized using the technology and in compliance with the methods of conducting WorldSkills International contests introduced by the international non-commercial organization (WSI). The goal of this organization is increasing the status and standards of occupational training and qualification all over the world. WSI has been operating since 1946, its creators set ambitious goals for themselves: motivate young people to compete with each other in order to stimulate their occupational training enthusiasm and compare skills and abilities of people from different countries. Russia joined this organization on May 17, 2012.

Since the time of the first contest held in 1950, the amount of participants had increased from 24 contestants from two countries to over 1,000 people that represented 51 countries at the 40th anniversary WorldSkills Contest, which took place in Canada in 2009. 

The Regional Open Championship of the Novosibirsk Region‘WorldSkills Russia 2014’ is conducted in order to improve the image of highly skilled work  performed by people of blue-collar occupations, promote the achievements of occupational training organizations in the sphere of preparing competent, in-demand employees who meet modern standards of the manufacturing and the service sphere. Participant list of WorldSkills Russia 2014 Championship of the Novosibirsk Region will include students of occupational training institutions, young employees from the Novosibirsk Region and other areas of the Russian Federation aged 18 to 23. The Championship program also includes workshops and panel discussions. Contestants will discuss the topic of promoting the WorldSkills Russia movement as a factor of improving the image of blue-collar occupations on April 2, 1.00-3.00 P.M., at Conference Hall No. 1 of the Novosibirsk Expocentre International Exhibition Complex.A panel discussion devoted to the topic of using the models and forms of occupational training regardless of the needs of the labor market and employers will be held on April 3, 2.00-4.00 P.M. at Conference  Hall No. 2.

Winners of the Novosibirsk Region Open Championship will take part in the National WorldSkills Russia Championship  to be held in Kazan in May 2014, and the best of the best will for the first time represent the Novosibirsk Region at the WorldSkills International World Championship.

The closing ceremony of WorldSkills Russia 2014 Championship and the awarding ceremony will be held at the Novosibirsk Expocentre (Hall B) on April 4, 2014, at 11.00 A.M.
