Further Development of the Novosibirsk Agglomeration Will Be Discussed at the All-Russian Conference

All-Russian conference devoted to the problems of developing urban agglomerations will be held at the Novosibirsk Expocentre on March 21st, 2004. 

According to the information provided by the event organizer, the Russian Federation Ministry of Regional Development, the goal of the conference is supporting the development of urban agglomerations in Russia and becoming a platform for seeking the opportunities and unified approaches to agglomeration development. Organizers of the event plan that the conference will stimulate interaction between municipal entities and contribute to the improvement of regulatory, budgetary and urban-planning support of agglomeration development.

Interested officials from local governments of the Russian Federation regions, heads of municipal entities, representatives of various businesses, non-governmental organizations, scientific and experts’ community will take part in the conference.

The program of the conference includes a plenary session called ‘Developing Urban Agglomerations of Russia: Problems and Further Directions’, which will be moderated by the Russian Federation Minister of Regional Development Igor Slunyaev. The session will also feature the Presidential Envoy for the Siberian Federal District Viktor Tolokonsky, and a member of the Russian Federation Duma Committee for Federative Framework and the Problems of Local Governments Viktor Schreider. Executive Vice-President and General Director of the International Assembly of Capitals and Large Cities Vladimir Selivanov, and Head of the UN-Habitat Program in the Russian Federation Tatyana Khabarova gave welcoming speeches to the session participants.

The problems of urban agglomerations will be also raised during panel discussion.
