According to the President of the Global Fire Monitoring Centre (Germany) Johann Goldammer, the world situation with forest fires in various regions is getting critical.

“Due to climate changes we have to be ready for the fact that forest fires will become the disaster that’s very hard to fight with. Today drought periods in Russia, Siberia, and the whole world are getting longer, peat swamps dry out and become more prone to catching fire. Besides, many people move from the countryside to urban areas, their farms become abandoned and thus, dangerous in terms of provoking fires,” told us Mr. Goldammer.

Within the following three days the exhibition congress participants are to work out solutions ensuring more effective management of forest fires.

“Fire management systems is a very important element helping us preserve the environment”, emphasized Head of the Forestry Department for the Siberian Federal District Alexander Gura. “Today we are facing the situation when it is not only necessary to do away with forest fires – we are unfortunately unable to do it as forest fires have always existed and they will continue to be the problem – but also learn to manage them and eliminate all the consequences of forest fires more efficiently”.

Various specialists had come together to take part in the exhibition congress. The event was attended by scientists who had foreseen current climate changes and predicted the possible dangers. As well as representatives of state authorities and non-governmental firefighting associations that are ready to work on finding solutions to the problem of efficient fire prevention using the newest scientific research results and state-of-the-art equipment. The third group of attendees included the representatives of manufacturers who presented their prototypes, equipment, and fire monitoring systems, fire prevention technologies, latest achievements in the sphere of fire protection including all major areas of forest fire monitoring as well as specialty forest management equipment. Finally, international experts from South Korea, USA, Turkey, Germany, Canada, Spain, Australia, Kazakhstan also came to the exhibition to share their experience with other participants of the event.

“The solution we are to work out isn’t going to be easy,” Mr. Goldammer noted. “But latest developments in the world, such as the typhoon at the Philippines and fires in Australia demonstrate that we have to work together. Apart from that, we need to encourage the authorities to invest more into forest protection since forests are not only an important economic factor for any country, they are an important factor of maintaining favorable climatic conditions all over the world and ensuring biological diversity.”
